About The Kings Arms’ History

The land where the Kings Arms Hotel stands today is of special interest. It is the only grant of land made by the Manor Court during the Commonwealth Period when England was ruled as a republic and Oliver, then Richard Cromwell were in power. The first building was originally named the Queen’s Head, perhaps in honour of Queen Anne the last of the Stuarts. However, by 1772, when mad King George the third sat on the throne, it had changed gender to the Kings Arms, and become a coaching Inn.
